Best travel books for kids: on Amazon

Books, we think, every parent needs to keep their little ones occupied on those long adventures.

Family trips are the perfect way to spend quality time together and create some unforgettable memories. I love family travel! However, anyone who has ever taken children on a long journey understands just how important it is that they remain occupied...for the entire journey!

I have personally searched for good quality, highly entertaining children's books to keep my own kids entertained over the years. However, I would inevitably end up turning to unrelated, run-of-the-mill colouring books, mainly due to a lack of travel-related books, suitable for children, on the high street.

As avid travellers, we decided we wanted more for our little boy, who absolutely loves everything about travelling. So we began searching for something that would enhance his these experiences and allow him to learn new things and record memories as he went.

As a result, we began looking for children's travel journals and informative books and we found so many good ones we thought we would share our findings with other like-minded families.

So here goes, a few of our personal favourites. All of which are currently available on Amazon*!

This book is recommended for ages 7 to 12.

The Kids' Travel Journal is ideal for children who are going on holiday soon and want to have a lovely keepsake to remember it by at the end.

Not only does it allow them to plan their trip before they even go, right down to making their very own packing list!

It also allows them to document what they did whilst they were away, allowing them to keep all of their fun (and maybe some not-so-fun) memories in one place. To look back on whenever they wish to.

With 14 days worth of travel documenting pages, there is plenty of space to make notes, draw and stick in their favourite photos, flyers, tickets etc.

The little pocket at the back of the book which allows children to store any loose items from their travels is also a great feature.

Allowing them to keep things safe to be glued in when the child returns home or kept loose in if they do not wish to glue them in permanently.

As well as being a journal, this book also contains lots of cool activities such as Puzzles, Maps, Fun facts, Colourful images and helpful phrases in various languages.

With questions surrounding topics such as their favourite food, best and worst experiences etc. It's also a great way of encouraging your children to think about all aspects of their holiday and really take in the whole experience.

Which, when you have paid your hard-earned money to take your family away, is exactly what you want, right!

An added bonus of this journal is that it is hardback. We all know that any holiday ( or general life experience) with kids is likely to entail spillage of some description on a regular basis. Being able to wipe these books clean gets a massive thumbs up from me!

This book is recommended for ages 6 - 9 years.

to document their memories as with the previous journal, however, this one is slightly more exciting as it is divided into four sections. Meaning it can be used on not one, but 4 family holidays.

You get more for your money and your kids get to keep more of their memories in one place!

This is especially handy if you have a big family adventure planned where you will be visiting more than one country or location.

This journal is also jam-packed with prompts and activities that invite kids to jot down their experiences while on vacation and has a special way of making it fun to do so!

So whether you’re travelling by car, plane, train or boat this journal will hold all of your memories in one place!

by Malcolm Croft (Author)

This book is recommended for children aged 8 years and up.

Unlike the previous books, The Travel Book is not a journal.

Instead, it is more of a resourceful book full of interesting information about countries all around the globe.

If your children are budding explorers like our little boy, and they enjoy finding out everything there is to know about wildlife from all around the world? Then this might just be the book for them.

It contains thousands of fascinating facts on 200 countries around the world. Including how people live, what they eat, sports they play, festivals they celebrate and even more.

The photography and illustrations throughout the book really bring each page to life and each country has its own full page. This is great as I have seen others that have a small section for each country, which doesn’t add much in the way of value to the children's knowledge of the area.

So, if your little one likes to explore and learn new things, this will keep them entertained for hours on your travels.

The one thing I will say about this book is that the physical version appears to be much better than the kindle version. It only takes a little look at the reviews to see that the Kindle version is not up to the same high standard as the book itself.

However, please bear in mind that this may have been corrected since the reviews were left.

This book is recommended for ages 1-3 years.

Unlike the previous books, The Busy Airport book is for a much younger child.

Babies and young children will love interacting with this brightly coloured board book.

It has what the author describes as a 'gentle rhyme' and is wonderfully illustrated throughout.

This book is especially good for preparing very little ones for their first time at the airport and on board a plane.

On every page there is some form of activity, in the form of a push, pull or sliding component that makes it a little more entertaining for us parents as well as the child!

This particular book is part of a set of Busy books, so it may be worth taking a look at some of the other titles. Such as Busy trains!

This book is recommended for ages 5 - 8 years.

This Everything & Everywhere book deserves a mention as it is a very unique book covered with beautiful illustrations and words explaining things about each place.

If you're looking for a fun and interactive way to introduce your children to different cultures, then this fact-filled adventure book is the perfect option.

These books take curious kids on an exciting and unexpected journey around the globe, revealing what makes each place unique.

Due to the size of this book it may not be the best for taking with you on your actual trip, however, it is perfect for learning about different cultures and gaining knowledge that can be applied when traveling in future.

The authors have created an intriguing book based on 15 places and cultures full of lots of really interesting details about each. This book is far from boring, as some informative books can be.

This book is labelled as suitable for ages 5 - 8, however, as you can see in the reviews, some consider the ideal age to be a little higher. Obviously, this depends on your own child.

These are just some of my favourite travel-related books for children. I believe they are excellent for encouraging children to embrace their surroundings and learn new things all whilst making memories!
