Bergamo, Italy is stunningly beautiful but it also has a fascinating past. For this reason, it offers a variety of activities that are ideal for families with children.

Although Bergamo is not the largest of Cities there is still much to be experienced there. Below are a few suggestions of things you can do in Bergamo with your family , in a couple or even Solo.



1. Visit the Città Alta



The upper town of Bergamo is a Beautiful medieval city with narrow winding streets with an abundance of magnificent Italian buildings. With many small cafes and restaurants dotted throughout,  there is no shortage of places to enjoy an aperitif!


2. Take a walk along the Venetian Walls



Bergamo's ancient Venetian Walls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. There is no better way to look over the entire city and it is equally magical on a misty morning in February as it is on a clear summer day in July.


3. Visit the Bergamo Science Museum

The Bergamo Science Museum complete with its interactive exhibits provides hours of fun for kids and adults alike. It is a fantastic way to experience and learn about science first-hand.




4. Take a funicular up Mount San Vigilio

This medieval castle is complete with a magnificent view of the city. Ideal for children and adults alike, who have dreamt of being knights and princesses.


5. Visit the Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden in Bergamo has a wide variety of plants and flowers from all around the world. This makes it a suitable place to learn all about the different types of plants and ecosystems.



6. Go to the Piazza Vecchia



The Piazza Vecchia is in the heart of Bergamo's Città Alta. With its little cafes and restaurants dotted around the picturesque cobbled square, this is great place to enjoy a gelato or a nice glass of wine while you watch the world go by.


7. Visit the Donizetti Museum

The Donizetti Museum is a museum dedicated to the famous Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. Here you can learn about his life and music in an exciting and interactive manner.



8. Visit the Duomo di Bergamo (Bergamo Cathedral)



Although its exterior is truly breathtaking it pales in significance when compared with the magnificent architecture and artwork on its inside.


9. Take a tour of the city via the little red train

This is the perfect activity for families, especially those with young children who want to see as much of the city as they can without tiring out little legs.


10. Visit the Parco Suardi

Here you will find a lovely Park suitable for children of all ages. From slides and swings to mini go-karts and a mini train. There is also a beautiful fountain in the summer and a bar for the adults to enjoy a refreshing drink.







There are many more activities that can be enjoyed in this beautiful city, from walking tours to cooking classes and wine tours.


With its excellent transport links, it is also easy to create your own adventure. With the likes of Milan, Lake Como and Verona within easy reach, your options for activities suitable for the whole family, are endless!
